Trip Summary

This photographic safari is designed for photographers who value adventure, exploration and the sense of achievement over rushed sightings with photos of everyday game. Traveling through Laikipia Plateau in search of black leopards is a journey that prioritizes patience in the field, unique encounters and time to create meaningful, rare and  frame-worthy images.

  • Laikipia is home to many other animals but it’s a hot spot for black leopards due to healthy overall leopard population with a persistent melanistic gene, an abundant prey base, and the region’s unique mix of dense vegetation and rocky habitats that offer some adaptive advantages.
  • Laikipia focuses on behavior based tracking of the elusive black leopard, with dawn, dusk, and night drives assisted with artificial lights.
  • The true nature of any safari with unpredictability of wildlife applies to this expedition, therefore be open minded and be prepare to experience slow days with limited sightings.
  • While we’ll do our best to search for Giza, the famous black leopard, sightings cannot be guaranteed, as wildlife encounters are always unpredictable. However, we’ll make the most of our time in the wilderness, exploring the area and looking for opportunities to observe and photograph these elusive cats.

This is a slow, intentional and goal oriented safari built around light, composition, and conservation designed to help you return with images that tell lasting stories of one of the most rare wildlife known to the world.
